This verse speaks to me about putting people's opinions in their rightful place. Do you ever give someone power over you or your emotions because of how much you care about their opinion? It's normal to want to be liked but we can make that so important that we lose sight of whose opinion should matter most: God's. I'm not saying we should not be answerable to anyone, no, but that's very different from allowing that person's preference have so much power over you that you are unhappy. It only leads to a lack of peace. Shalom!
